Our mission

Porkstock as we know it was started in 1997 by Mike Damiano and Greg Hardy, Allegany county visionaries, who had the following intentions:

Create a huge party that would gather friends, friends of friends, and family alike.

Create an atmosphere that could feature and appreciate all of the local musical talent, especially some of the acoustic folks that might not otherwise get heard.

Create a "festival" that could donate any money raised to deserving local charities - at that time the Allegany SPCA.

Those tenets are still in the hearts and minds of all involved with this latest incarnation.

Changes have occurred over the years.  We've continued to grow and moved from a back yard in Belfast to the fairgrounds in Angelica and now to an intimate campground near Belmont.  The name evolved into the more formal "Rockville Folk Festival," though diehard fans continued to call it Porkstock.  Bands formed and reformed; musicians moved in and out.  But that group of "friends of friends" has only increased, so the festival carries on - perhaps stepping back a bit this year to re-connect with some of the barefooted feel of the beginning.

Naturally, there are so many people that make Porkstock happen that it is almost impossible to list them all.  Though some groups of people stand out, we thank everyone equally.  First, the Hardys and the Damianos - for their ideas and countless hours of toil and countless dollars of financing.  Next, the "inner circle" - responsible for sound and lights and activities and advertising and services and security and food, and generally picking up the loose ends.  Next, the performers who donate their talent and time.  Next, all the attendees who loyally return year after year.  And to make sure we include all who might not have been included...  last but not least...  finally…

"The Rest Of Us."
